Charges are filed in break-in at Cody’s
By Carey Phillips
Four people have been taken into custody and officers are still looking for a fifth suspect in connection with a break-in early Monday, March 27, at Cody’s Hot Spot.
According to Detective John Buchanan of the Sylva Police Department, Melvin Edward Lambert, 21, of Cherokee, Larry Douglas Armachain, 24, of Cherokee, Jesus Yanez Raynosa, 33, of Sylva, and James Richard Walkingstick, 26, of Whittier, have all been charged with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny and felony possession of stolen goods.
Armachain, Raynosa and Walkingstick also are charged with conspiracy, Buchanan said.
Officers are looking for Buster Lee Biddix, 20, of Cherokee, who is facing felony charges of breaking, and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods, Buchanan said. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Biddix should call the Police Department at 586-2916.
The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. when Biddix broke out the front door glass with a rock and took beer and tobacco products, according to Buchanan.
“Biddix was the only one who went in,” Buchanan said. “The rest of them assisted him on the outside.”
A witness reported seeing a pickup truck leave the scene on Cope Creek Road.
Sgt. Judy Henry instructed Officer Jeff Postell to search some mobile home parks on Cope Creek, and he found a 2003 Dodge Dakota belonging to Lambert at Raynosa’s residence in a mobile home park on Retirement Lane, Buchanan said.
The back end of the truck had beer and tobacco products, and a majority of the missing items were recovered, he said.
Raynosa, Armachain and Walkingstick were taken into custody, and Lambert was found later, Buchanan said.
As of Tuesday morning, Lambert, Armachain and Walkingstick remained in custody while Raynosa was free after posting an unsecured bond, Buchanan said.
