Brevard hands SM loss in league play

Brevard broke open a close game with four runs in the fourth inning en route to a 7-0 Western Athletic Conference baseball victory over Smoky Mountain on March 28 at Brevard.

Kurt Frisbee limited the Mustangs to five hits through six innings. He walked two and struck out six.

“We had a good game going until the fourth inning,” Coach Ron Yount said. “Levi (Buchanan) pitched an excellent ballgame. We’ve been snake bit when it comes to supporting our pitchers with runs.”

The Blue Devils were leading 4-0 entering the bottom of the fourth when they scored four times. Big hits were an RBI double by Adam Conley and Kyle Framer’s two-run homer.

Frisbee’s two-run shot in the fifth accounted for the 7-0 final.

Brevard took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on Adam Conley’s RBI double.

Farmer, Frisbee and Adam Pace all had two hits for the Devils.

SM’s Grant Schallock went two of two, and Michael Freeman was two of three.

The Mustangs stranded nine runners and left the bases loaded in the last inning.

Buchanan (2-2) pitched five innings. Only three of Brevard’s runs were earned.

Playing at home, the Mustang JVs dropped a 4-1 decision to Brevard.

“Jared Jones pitched a great game,” Coach Scott Manshack said. “We just didn’t give him any run support. The defense played well behind him.”

The JVs bounced back the next day to blast Pisgah 11-1 in five innings at Canton. Jesse Henkel hit a home run.

“The bats came alive,” Manshack said. “Josh Ammons pitched a great game.

He singled out Jordan Moss and Jacob Buchanan for their hitting and Andy Potter and Jones for their defense.
