Undefeated Tuscola rips Lady Mustangs
Tuscola scored in all four innings as the unbeaten Lady Mountaineers pounded Smoky Mountain 11-1 in a non-conference softball game March 22 at Waynesville.
The contest was called after four and a half innings due to the 10-run rule.
Amanda Mathis pitched a two-hitter for the win. She struck out eight while walking one and hitting two batters.

Morgan Mills, Emily Price and Kayla Moore all had two hits for the Lady Mounties.
“We just didn’t play very well,” Coach Mark Taylor said. “Tuscola is an undefeated team, and they played like it. We still aren’t hitting the ball consistently.”
Tuscola scored in the first inning on Casey Stamey’s RBI single.
Ashley Steinel and Mills both had RBI singles in the second, and another run scored on an error for a 4-0 advantage.
The Lady Mustangs loaded the bases in the third as Ashlee Stephens and Brandi Anders singled and Brittany Gilbert was hit by a pitch. Jessica Cabe drove in her team’s only run with an infield out.
Kasey Medford’s three-run homer extended the margin to 7-1 in the bottom of the third.
Tuscola put the game away with four runs in the fourth. Mills had an RBI single. One run scored on a wild pitch and two more scored on an error.
Stephens was on base twice for SM as she singled and was hit by a pitch.
Megan Taylor pitched the entire game for the Lady Mustangs.
Home games slated for last week against Murphy and Pisgah were postponed due to inclement weather. The Pisgah game has been reset for Thursday, April 5, causing a game with North Buncombe, planned for the previous day, to be cancelled. No makeup date has been set for the Murphy game.
