Pisgah downs SM in league opener
Pisgah defeated Smoky Mountain 5-1 in the Western Athletic Conference baseball opener Friday at the SM field.
Tyler Stephenson pitched a complete game for the Bears. He allowed six hits and four walks while striking out eight.
Pisgah scored the only two runs it would need in the first on RBI singles by Bradley Pace and Travis Sorrells.

Justin Wilson’s home run in the third and his RBI single in the fourth put the Bears up 4-0.
The Mustangs (2-4, 0-1) got on the board in the fifth. D.J. Brooks struck out but reached base on a wild pitch. He stole second and scored on Grant Schallock’s single.
Pisgah got that run back in the sixth as Wilson walked, stole second and came around on a pair of wild pitches.
Wilson was two of two with a pair of walks to lead the Bear offense. Josh Clontz was two of three.
Schallock went two of three to pace SM.
Matt Hawkins (0-2) took the loss. He allowed eight hits with four walks and six strikeouts in six innings.
Levi Buchanan struck out the side in the seventh.
“Matt pitched a good game,” Coach Ron Yount said. “We just didn’t get the hits we needed when we had people on base. Their pitcher had us way out in front. He didn’t have a fastball we were used to seeing, and our timing was off.”
