SM men come in fifth at N. Buncombe meet
Smoky Mountain’s men’s track team finished fifth among eight teams in a meet March 14 at North Buncombe.
The Lady Mustangs were seventh out of eight teams.
“It was a much better meet than our first one,” Coach Jamie Extine said. “We had more teams to compete with. Our guys performed well in the cold.”
North Henderson edged North Buncombe 122-121 for the team title. Asheville was third with 98 points followed by Erwin (64), East Henderson (47), Mitchell (38), SM (31) and Avery (5).
Top finishers for the Mustangs were:
100-meter dash – Cory Siler, fourth, 11.4.
800 relay – Tyler Clarke, George Neslen, Travis Hollomon and Siler, third, 1:39.
400 relay – Siler, Neslen, Hollomon and T.J. Bradley, second, 46.72.
400 dash – Chad Harris, fourth, 59.72.
300 hurdles – Clarke, third, 45.56.
High jump – C.J. Fortner, third, 5-10.
SM’s placements on the women’s side were not available. Coach Dale Galloway said the information was to have been faxed from North Buncombe, but it had not been received as of Tuesday morning.
He said Victoria Palmer won the 400 dash with a time of 1:06.5.
