Man jailed on drug charges for second time this year

By Lynn Hotaling

032306mathesonOfficers who answered a March 18 call about an unresponsive driver in the turn lane on U.S. 441 near the Savannah Fire Department arrested the man on drug-related charges.

Victor Ralph Matheson, 43, of Sylva, apparently passed out behind the wheel in his vehicle, said Capt. Steve Lillard of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. WestCare EMS had already revived the driver when deputies arrived, Lillard said.

While searching the man for weapons, officers discovered 3.7 grams of methamphetamine, four hydrocodone tablets and a small amount of marijuana in his jacket liner, Lillard said.

As of Monday, Matheson remained in jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond. He is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of meth, possession with intent to sell/deliver meth and possession of marijuana.

Deputy Kenneth Woodring conducted the search and arrest, Lillard said. He was assisted by members of the Savannah Fire Department.

Matheson was also arrested Jan. 29 during a traffic stop near East LaPorte. Deputies seized 4.6 grams of marijuana and 1 gram of meth from Matheson at that time.
