After the Lady Cougars scored two unearned runs in the top of the first, SM took control with eight runs in the bottom of the frame.
The inning started with an error and consecutive walks to Jessica Cabe, Cassie Randall and Megan Taylor. One run scored on a wild pitch, and Stewman drove in a run with an infield out. Jamie Hyatt had an RBI single for SM’s first hit. After a walk to Ashlee Stephens, Mallory Nelson singled in a pair. The onslaught continued as Brandi Anders and Brittany Gilbert drove in runs with a single and double, respectively.
SM scored twice in the third with the help of an error making it 10-2. Anders walked and Gilbert singled ahead of the error.
The Lady Mustangs clinched the game by scoring twice in the fifth. Natalie Woodard walked, moved up on a pair of wild pitches and scored on an error. Liz Cochran singled in a run giving SM the 10-run margin and ending the game.
