Georgia rips six homers in win over WCU
Georgia, the nation’s 20th-ranked team, hit six home runs and handed Western Carolina its first shutout of the season with an 11-0 victory on March 25 at Foley Field.
The Bulldogs took charge early with five runs in the first. Jason Jacobs had an RBI double, and Josh Morris followed with a two-run homer. Gordon Beckham had an RBI single, and Kyle Keen drove in a run with a fielder’s choice.
Georgia went up 7-0 in the third as Keen homered with a man on base.
Morris’ second homer of the game made it 8-0 in the fourth.
Joey Side’s two-run blast extended the margin to 10-0 in the fifth.
Bobby Felmy completed the scoring with a solo shot in the sixth.
Nathan Moreau pitched the first five innings for the win.
Caleb McConnell (0-2) suffered the loss.
Morris and Matt Robbins both had three hits for the Bulldogs. Side, Felmy, Kenn and Ryan Peisel all added two.
Western’s Grey Gregory had two hits.
