John Beck
John L. Beck, 61, of Cherokee, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2006, at Cherokee Indian Hospital after a period of declining health.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, at United Methodist Church with Ray Kinsland and Casey Cooper officiating.
He enjoyed yard work, fishing and being outdoors. He was a lifelong member of Soco United Methodist Church. He was a son of the late John Quinton Beck and Dorothy Darden Beck.
Surviving are one sister, Betty Frady of Waynesville; and one brother, Tom Beck of Cherokee.
Moody Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Odessia Wilkins
Odessia Inez Elders Wilkins, 82, formerly of Sylva, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006, at a medical care facility in Mt. Clemens, Mich., after a period of declining health.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 3, in the chapel of Moody Funeral Home with the Rev. Floyd Jones officiating. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
She was a daughter of the late Jode Elders and Florence Jones Elders.
She was also preceded in death by one sister and three grandchildren.
Surviving are three daughters, Karen Shiekh of Warren, Mich., Priscilla Jones of Saltese, Ga., and Margaret Graham of Roseville, Mich.; four sons, Nathan Wilkins of Washington, Mich., Edward Wilkins of Almont, Mich., Harvey Wilkins of Clinton Township, Mich., and Ronald Wilkins of Mt. Clemens; 20 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Willard Nations
The Rev. Willard Nations, 70, of White, Ga., died Friday, Feb. 24, 2006, at Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome, Ga.
Services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 28, in the chapel of Moody Funeral Home. Interment was in Locust Field Baptist Church Cemetery.
He was born June 11, 1935, in the Wilmot community, and was last employed by Allied Waste as a superintendent. He was a member and former pastor of Crowe Springs Baptist Church. He was also former pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Harley and Hester Nations.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Annie Nations; three daughters, Donna McCutcheon of Adairsville, Ga., and Cathy Keith and Debbie Nations, both of White; two sons, Gary Nations of Cartersville, Ga., and Terry Nations of Adairsville; three brothers, Gene Nations of Woodstock, Ga., and Hayes Nations and Vance Nations, both of Sylva; three sisters, Opal Stanley, Frances Beasley and Shirley Nations, all of Sylva; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Dorcas Bryson
Dorcas Bryson, 58, of Staunton, Va., died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4, at Wesleyanna United Methodist Church, of which she was a member, with the Rev. Daniel Stiles officiating.
She was a graduate of Sylva-Webster High School and Western Carolina University. She taught school in Murphy for several years and worked for the U.S. Patent Office in Washington, D.C. She was a daughter of the late Hazel Turpin Bryson and Bert Bryson.
Surviving are two brothers, Hugh Bryson of Murphy and Michael Bryson of Sylva; and five sisters, Dorothea Coe and Nancy Decker, both of Sylva, Dixie Miller of Beckley Springs, W.Va., Sara Hall of Norfolk, Va., and Glenda Crawford of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
Memorials may be made to Wesleyanna United Methodist Church.
Mark Rogers
Mark Rogers, 45, of Marble, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006.
Services will be held at a later date.
He was a son of the late William Kyle Rogers Sr. and Helen Scott Rogers.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, David Lee Rogers.
Surviving are one sister, Sharon Rogers Sweet of Trion, Ga.; and one brother, William Kyle Rogers Jr. of Roswell, Ga.

Betty Keener
Sarah “Betty” Keener, 91, formerly of Sylva, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2006, at her daughter’s home in Summerfield.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 3, in Farmer Cemetery with the Rev. Dan Blackwell officiating.
She was born Feb. 5, 1915, in Canton, and was a homemaker. She enjoyed watching western movies, cooking and quilting. She was a daughter of the late George Henley and Clara Hipps.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Keener; three sons, Glenn Keener, Henry Keener and Kelly Keener; one daughter, Joyce Keener; two grandsons; and one great-grandson.
Surviving are two sons, Donald Keener of Greensboro and Billey Keener of Summerfield; two daughters, Audrey Howell of Hendersonville and Norma Kelley of Summerfield; one brother, Bill Ward of Jacksonville, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Marlene Gettemy
Marlene Cecelia Flocker Gettemy, 70, of East View Road, Balsam, died Monday, Feb. 20, 2006, at Harris Regional Hospital after an extended illness.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Waynesville with Father James P. Cahill and Father Frank Doyle officiating. Burial was in Greenhill Cemetery in Waynesville.
A native of Kenosha, Wis., she had lived in Balsam since 1998.
Surviving are her husband, Donald Gettemy Sr.; one daughter; five sons; two sisters; two brothers; and seven grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Richard Leveille
Richard Braden Leveille, 54, of Dawsonville, Ga., died Friday, Feb. 24, 2006.
Services were held at noon Tuesday, Feb. 28, at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church in Cleveland, Tenn., where he was raised, with Father P. J. McGinnity officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
He was born Aug. 21, 1951, in Sylacauga, Ala. He was the third son of Charles Reuben Leveille of Etowah and the late Jean Besner Leveille.
Surviving in addition to his father are his stepmother, Dorothy Leveille of Etowah; five brothers, William M. Leveille of Atlanta, Ga., Robert C. Leveille of Webster, Timothy J. Leveille and Thomas M. Leveille, both of Knoxville, Tenn., and Charles F. Leveille of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and one sister, Cindy J. Leveille of Dawsonville.
