Boone leads UNC-G by Western Carolina

Kristen Boone scored 25 points and claimed 10 rebounds Saturday, and UNC-Greensboro pulled away down the stretch for a 72-57 Southern Conference win over Western Carolina in the regular season women’s basketball finale at Fleming Gym.

KaLeah Latham and Irene Otamiri added 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Lady Spartans.

Teshymia Tillman led Western with 15 points.

UNC-G never trailed in the first half with the biggest margin 19-12 after Kemena Brooks’ three-pointer at the 10:23 mark.

The Lady Spartans led 32-28 at halftime.

Three-point plays by Tillman and Kendra Eaton and another Tillman basket gave the Lady Cats a 40-36 edge with 17:22 on the clock.

Boone’s layup put UNC-G ahead for good, 50-49, at the 6:51 mark.

The Lady Spartans pulled away with a 13-2 spurt, including seven by Otamiri, for a 68-55 advantage with 28 seconds to play.

UNC-G made 41.9 percent of its field goal tries while WCU hit 39.7 percent.

The Lady Spartans dominated the boards 45-30. Erin May topped Western with five.

The Lady Cats turned the ball over 19 times and UNC-G had 17.

Completing the WCU scoring were Chevon Keith and Monique Dawson both with nine, Lauren Powell with seven, Ashley Pellom with six, Amelia Miller with four, Eaton with three, and April Parker and Jessika Johnson with two apiece.
