Political filing period will open on Monday

Filing for offices up for election this year will begin at noon Monday, Feb. 13.

The deadline for candidates to file with the Jackson County Board of Elections is noon Tuesday, Feb. 28.

Local offices on the ballot this year include all five commissioners’ seats and three spots on the school board as well as the positions of sheriff, register of deeds and clerk of court.

The primary will be Tuesday, May 2 with a runoff, if needed, Tuesday, May 30.

The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 7.

For the school board seats, the primary will serve as the general election.

Sylva officials have voted to have a mixed drink referendum on the primary ballot.

The primary voter registration deadline is Friday, April 7.

Absentee ballots by mail may be requested from Monday, March 13, through Tuesday, April 25. Those ballots must be returned by Monday, May 1.

One-stop absentee voting will go from Thursday, April 13 through Saturday, April 29.
