Cheerleaders place fourth
Smoky Mountain’s cheerleaders placed fourth in the 2-A division of Saturday’s state championships sponsored by the N.C. Cheerleading Coaches Association at Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem. “They did a fantastic job,” Coach Kim Buchanan said. “We hit every stunt and didn’t have a bobble. It was a flawless performance.” The competition was not divided according to tumbling ability as was the national competition when SM finished first in its division last year. “When you go to the nationals, you compete against teams you are equal with in tumbling,” Buchanan said. “We were competing against tumbling powerhouses.” – Photo by Mark Haskett
