Center dedicated to mayor

020206brendadaycare
The Fairview Head Start Center was dedicated in honor of Sylva Mayor Brenda Oliver last Friday (Jan. 27). Oliver has served as the chairman of Mountain Projects, the sponsoring agency for Head Start, since 1999. According to Mountain Projects Director Patsy Dowling, Oliver’s work with the program made her the obvious choice for the dedication. “This dedication did not come lightly and without thought,” she said. “I can say without a doubt that the Head Start program would not be where it is without the efforts of Brenda Oliver-Holt. We are now an example of what a good Head Start center should be.” Oliver told those in attendance that, while she is flattered by the honor, the center’s success was the result of the efforts of many. “I am really, truly honored today,” she said. “But I feel the recognition is misguided. This has been more of a team effort than anything else.” The center provides children with services such as eye exams, dental care and socials skills training. (Editor’s Note: Though the dedication was made to “Brenda Oliver-Holt,” Mayor Oliver, who is married to local attorney Paul Holt, has chosen to remain “Oliver” professionally.)
