Celebrating 104 years
Longtime Whittier resident Bessie Nations, left, celebrated her 104th birthday Sunday (Jan. 29) during a party with family and friends at Mountain Trace Nursing Center. Helping her blow out the candles Sunday is granddaughter Connie Fleming of Greer, S.C. Nations was born Jan. 29, 1902, in the Sugarlands area near Gatlinburg, Tenn., in what is now the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. She has four living children, nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild.
