Air Force Band to land at WCU

012606airforceband
Three months after the United States Marine Band stormed the stage of Western Carolina University’s Fine and Performing Arts Center, another musical ensemble representing the nation’s armed forces is set to land in Cullowhee when the United States Air Force Heritage of America Band performs Friday, Feb. 17. The program, sponsored by Western’s College of Arts and Sciences, will begin at 7 p.m. in the center’s main performance hall. Formed in 1941 as one of the original Army Air Corps bands, the ensemble entertains nearly 1 million people each year through more than 500 performances. The 60-member band, based out of Langley Air Force Base in Virginia, has performed for several U.S. presidents, the president of France and the queen of England. Admission to the Feb. 17 performance at Western is free; there is a limit of four tickets per person. To obtain tickets or for more information, contact the Fine and Performing Arts Center box office at 227-2479.
