South Carolina blasts Western women 95-53
South Carolina used a 19-2 run early in the game en route to blasting Western Carolina 95-53 last Thursday in women’s basketball action at USC’s Colonial Center.
Ilona Burgrova led the Lady Gamecocks with 17 points. She was followed by Melanie Johnson with 15, Lauren Simms with 13 and Stacy Booker with 11.
Chevon Keith and Lauren Powell both scored 10 points for Western.
The Lady Cats were limited to 28.8 percent shooting from the floor while South Carolina made 52.6 percent of its field goal tries.
The Lady Gamecocks, who were up 49-25 at halftime, controlled the boards 52-38. Burgrova led the way with nine. April Parker and Lynsie Lamitie had six apiece for the Lady Cats.
Western committed 22 turnovers, and South Carolina had 14.
Completing the WCU scoring were Amelia Miller with seven, Jessika Johnson and Ashley Pellom both with six, Monique Dawson and Teyawna Hardy with five apiece and Parker with four.
