Work on Allen Street is complete
Months of work concluded this week as Allen Street was reopened to traffic. The final grading and levelling work was completed Tuesday afternoon (Dec. 13). According to Public Works Director Dan Schaeffer, the project, which began in September with relief funds from last year’s hurricanes, is meant to prevent future mudslides. A 400 foot section which was damaged in September 2004 by Hurricanes Frances and Ivan was rebuilt by town workers and reinforced by a 12 foot wall along the side. Schaffer said he now plans to build a walkway from the street to Bryson Park on Chipper Curve Road. – Herald photo by Justin Goble. |
