The Jackson County Public Library was nearing completion in February 1970, when the top photo was taken. Visible in the older photo is the top of the Luther Osment house, located between Cowan and Jackson streets, which is obscured by trees in the recent image. The street lights in the lower photo were installed as part of 1998’s Streetscape project. After more than 30 years on Main Street, the library is slated to move to Jackson Plaza. County commissioners, with help from Sylva’s town leaders, purchased the former Western Sizzlin’ steakhouse property in September 2004 and plan to build a new library there. – Herald file photo (top) and Herald photo by Nick Breedlove
