Fire damages mobile home

By Carey Phillips

A fire early last Thursday afternoon (Oct. 27) caused significant damage to a mobile home in Scotts Creek Trailer Park on Skyland Drive.

“I just happened to be coming by and saw it,” Sylva Fire Chief Mike Beck said.

The blaze at the Sandy Gill residence was apparently caused by an overturned propane heater, he said.

“We were able to contain the fire to the living room, but it was severely damaged,” Beck said.

No one was home when the fire started.

Firefighters were on the scene for about an hour. Departments from Balsam and Savannah provided mutual aid.
