Cats to meet Wofford in key league contest
Western Carolina will play host to Wofford Saturday when the Terriers come to E.J. Whitmire Stadium/Bob Waters Field for a 2 p.m. football game.
The loser will be eliminated from the Southern Conference race while the winner will keep its championship hopes alive.
Both teams are 3-2 and tied for fourth in the league. Wofford is 5-3 overall, and WCU is 4-3.
“Watching them on film, I’m so impressed,” WCU Coach Kent Briggs said. “Their players are so consistent and fundamentally sound. They’re a ball control team with a lot of finesse.”
“They play hard and are highly motivated,” Wofford Coach Mike Ayers said. “You better be playing every tick of the clock because those guys are bringing it. They don’t have any weaknesses. They do a great job disguising their defense and confusing you.”
The Catamounts will be without reserve running back and return specialist Nicholas Wishart the rest of the season. He sustained a knee injury Saturday against Elon.
