N. Henderson breezes past Smoky Mountain
North Henderson took control midway through the second game and breezed to a 29-31, 25-14, 25-10, 25-13 Western Athletic Conference volleyball victory over Smoky Mountain last Thursday at North.
The Lady Mustangs (2-6, 5-15) won a marathon in the first game. North was ahead most of the way, but Colleen Davis served three points and Amy Haggard had a kill for a 24-24 tie. Sarah Haggard served the last two points, including an ace, and Jennifer Webb had a kill for the final point.
The Lady Knights scored the last 10 points of the second game to even the match.
North jumped in front 11-6 in the third game, and the outcome was never in doubt.
The same was true in game four after the Lady Knights went up 9-4.
Sarah Haggard dished out 16 assists. Brittany Gilbert and Kelli Woodard both had 15 digs. They were followed by Amy Haggard with 12 and Colleen Davis with 10. Gilbert and Webb had six kills apiece.
Sarah Haggard was tops in service points with nine. Not missing a serve were Davis (13), Woodard (11) and Gilbert (eight). Team serving was 88.4 percent.
The Lady Mustang JVs (2-18) won for the second straight match 11-25, 25-18, 25-16.
“We had two people get hurt so we had some players go in and play different positions,” Coach Natasha Wilson said. “They did a good job doing that.”
She cited Heather Parton for her play up front and Shanekia Allen for her performance at libero.
