Mustangs compete in meet at Christ School
Smoky Mountain’s men finished fifth among six teams in a cross country meet last Thursday at Christ School.
“It was a great course and beautiful conditions,” Coach Lawson Hopper said.
Bryan McManus led the Mustangs as he was eighth out of 55 runners in 20:35. Completing SM’s top five were:
Anthony Stephens, ninth, 20:42; Trey Franks, 18th, 21:47; John Cody, 43rd, 25:50; and Grayson Cooper, 44th, 25:50.
Travis Brotherton, who has missed the last several meets due to competing in larger competitions and an ankle injury, was absent again due to a recruiting visit.
Hopefully, he’ll be ready to go for conference and regionals,” Hopper said.
The Western Athletic Conference Meet is set for today (Thursday) at West Henderson.
The Lady Mustangs did not qualify for team standings as they had only two runners due to injuries and other reasons. Hopper said he hopes to have a full team for the conference meet.
Katie Hayes was 19th among 32 runners in 26:39. Emily Butcher was 20th in 26:55.
