Coleman Corzine’s goal lifts Mustangs to upset of Devils
Coleman Corzine scored with four minutes left in the second overtime lifting Smoky Mountain to a 2-1 Western Athletic Conference victory over Brevard on Oct. 12 at Carr Hooper Stadium/Babe Howell Field.

“That was a great, thrilling win,” Coach Dolphus Brown said. “The crowd was big for us, and we played well all over the field.”
He was pleased with the performance in the two 10-minute overtimes.
“Conditioning is a real strong point for us,” he said. “We challenged our guys to show our fitness.”
The winning goal was set up by J.R. Collins’ throw-in that may have been just nicked by the goal keeper’s fingers.
“Grant Schallock impeded the keeper’s ability to make a play on the ball,” the coach said. “The ball landed at Coleman’s feet 3 yards out.”
The Mustangs (3-3, 11-5-1) got on the board with a minute left in the half as Schallock scored off of a Joey Cox assist.
“Joey made a nice through pass out of the midfield,” Brown said. “He played the ball to the right side. The keeper tried to come out and challenge Grant. As soon as he made his move, Grant pushed it past him.”
The Blue Devils tied it on Peter Koerber’s goal at the 69-minute mark.
“Their kid was unmarked and kicked it past our keeper,” the coach said.
SM had a 15-13 edge in shots. Sterling Brady made 11 saves for the Mustangs, and Brevard’s Hays Johnson had 12.
The Mustang JVs fell to 6-3-1 with a 1-0 loss.
