Forest Hills passes EDC bylaws, cable contract

By Samantha Blanton

Forest Hills officials Monday (Oct. 3) approved the amended Economic Development Commission of Jackson County bylaws and a countywide cable contract.

Only two board members – Jim Wallace and Sue Burton – were present, along with Mayor Jim Davis.

Burton asked if two board members provided a quorum for voting. “Yes,” replied Jay Coward, Forest Hills attorney, and the meeting proceeded.

Irene Hooper, Forest Hills’ appointee to the EDC presented an update on the commission’s recent activities.

“Brenda Oliver and Jean Hartbarger are our co-presidents,” she said. “We approved a budget of $62,588 and that includes an audit.”

Forest Hills officials approved the EDC’s amended bylaws upon Hooper’s recommendation.

Other action taken included the approval of the countywide cable contract with Mediacom, which will provide Forest Hills with a 5 percent cable franchise tax.
