Palmer places seventh in meet at Azalea Park

Smoky Mountain’s Victoria Palmer finished seventh in a cross country meet last week at Azalea Park in Asheville.

Her time was 21:47, and there were 89 runners in the field.

Completing the field for SM were Cadence Railsback (24th, 23:02), Katie Hayes (65th, 25:29) and Emily Butcher (66th, 25:29).

The Lady Mustangs did not have enough runners to qualify for the team standings, but the men were 12th among 15th squads.

Bryan McManus led the Mustangs by finishing 33rd in 19:19. Rounding out the top five were:

Anthony Stephens (41st, 19:40), Trey Franks (42nd, 19:41), Grayson Cooper (96th, 21:51) and John Cody (122nd, 22:52).

SM’s Travis Brotherton missed his third straight meet as he was preparing for a weekend competition in Charlotte.

“A lot of kids set personal records, and they were real excited about it,” Coach Lawson Hopper said. “A cold front came in so it made for ideal running conditions.”
