Two men who were arrested last Wednesday (Sept. 28) near Cashiers after officers saw them throw an object out of their car window.
Deputy Jimmy Henry initially noticed the white Jeep driving erratically on Norton Road. He attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to halt despite the siren and blue lights, according to Capt. Steve Lillard of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
Henry continued to follow the Jeep to Mill Creek Road, where he observed the passenger throw what appeared to be a gray sweatshirt out of the window, Lillard said.
The driver finally stopped at the intersection of Mill Creek and Windy Gap roads, Lillard said.
When officers recovered the sweatshirt they had seen the passenger toss from the vehicle, they discovered almost 3 ounces of marijuana, Lillard said.
Arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana were William Michael McCall, 33, of Allens Creek Road, Waynesville, and Raymond Ben Barker, 26, of Yellow Mountain Road, Cashiers, Lillard said.
McCall also faces charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, fleeing/eluding arrest, failure to heed blue light and siren and reckless driving, Lillard said. McCall’s posted a $5,000 bond and was released, Lillard said.
Barker, who also faces a possession of drug paraphernalia charge, posted $2,000 and was released, Lillard said.
In addition to the marijuana, Deputy Henry, assisted by Deputy Chris Cabe, seized $1,345, Lillard said.
