Kate Osment
Kate Callaway Osment, 100, of Sylva, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, at the Western North Carolina Baptist Retirement Home in Asheville.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Kurt Benson officiating.
She was a resident of Sylva and a former resident of Benton, Tenn. She was a graduate of Carson-Newman College and a high school English teacher. She taught ladies Sunday school classes and directed many vacation Bible schools. She was a daughter of the late Timothy Walton Callaway and Rosalind Royall Callaway.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, J.L. Osment, who died in 1992.
Surviving are one son, Luther Osment of Sylva; one brother, the Rev. Merrill Callaway of Charleston, S.C.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Violet Graves
Violet Graves, 80, of Sylva, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, at Harris Regional Hospital after a period of declining health.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Tuckasegee Baptist Church.
Surviving are four sisters, Mary Etta Robinson of Webster, Pearl Woods of Nebo, Rae Hall of Tuckasegee and Velma Stephens of Charlotte; and three brothers, Vance Millsaps of Tuckasegee, Darryl Millsaps of Indian Trail, and Paul Millsaps of Tuckasegee.

Lamont Brown
Lloyd Lamont Brown Jr., 82, of Columbia, S.C., died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26, in the Devine Street Chapel of Dunbar Funeral Home in Columbia. Burial was in Brown’s Chapel Cemetery.
He was born in Sylva and was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in the Sea Bees during World War II, and a Mason. He was a son of the late Lloyd Lamont and Anne Elrod Brown.
Surviving are two daughters, Susan Brown of Columbia and Terry McDaniel of Clover, S.C.; one half-brother, Fred Brown of Columbia; one half-sister, Mildred Seay of Columbia; his stepmother, Elizabeth “Lib” Brown of Columbia; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Jennie Cathey
Jennie H. Cathey, 94, of Sylva, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Thursday, Sept. 29) at Whittier Methodist Church, of which she was a member, with the Rev. David Baxter officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service time. Burial will be in Thomas Memorial Cemetery.
She was a lifelong resident of Sylva and was formerly a member of Shoal Creek Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school. She was a teacher, educating about 1,500 students during her career. She enjoyed reading. She was a daughter of the late John Wilkey Cathey and Selma Martin Cathey.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Emerson Cathey.
Surviving are one nephew; and several great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Virginia Brown
Virginia Lee Fulmer Brown, 83, died in Brandon, Fla., formerly of Jackson County, Wednesday, September 21, 2005.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at Tuckasegee Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Stillwell officiating.
Born in Murphy, she has lived in the Orlando and Tampa areas of Florida in recent years. She volunteered at Tuckasegee Baptist Church and Harris Regional Hospital, and owned a business with her husband. She was a daughter of the late Jim and Jesse Franklin.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joe Fulmer.
Surviving are her two daughters, Hazel Watson Abbott of Mooresville and Jinnie Hall Lamb of Tampa; three sons, Joe Sidney Fulmer of Cullowhee, Jim Henry Fulmer of Pickens, S.C., and Bob Fulmer of Greenville, S.C.; one sister, Elizabeth “Bibus” Simpson of Franklin; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Frank All
W. Frank All Sr., 71, of Salem, Va., died Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at Salem Church of Christ, of which he was a member, with the Revs. Mike Flinchum and Roy Miller officiating. Burial was in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
He had lived at the Virginia Veterans Care Center for the last six and a half years. He was a building contractor in northern Virginia for several years, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Patsy P. All; two sons, W. Frank All Jr. of Manassas, Va., and Perry Olen All of Middleburg, Va.; two sisters, Violet Dovell of Jeffersonton, Va., and Juanita Smith of Denver, Colo.; and seven grandchildren.

Sue Staffelbach
Sue Estes Staffelbach, 71, of Joe Wilkey Road, Sylva, died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, at her residence after an extended illness.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, in the chapel of Melton-Riddle Funeral Home with Virgle Brown and the Rev. Jim Ed Powell officiating. Burial was in Queen-Connor Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Danny Brown, Virgle Brown, Frank Wilkey, Dave Stephens and Bob Kinsman.
She was a native of Jackson County, where she lived most of her life. She was a member of Long Branch Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Abe and Margaret Connor Estes.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Leonard Staffelbach, who died in 1991; two brothers, Billy Estes and John Ralph Connor; and one sister, Patsy Estes Childers.
Surviving are one daughter, Sheila Suitt of Greenville, S.C.; one sister, Doris Estes of Sylva; and four grandchildren.
Robert George
Robert Lee George, 39, of Marion, formerly of Cherokee, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, at his residence.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, at Victory Baptist Church with the Rev. Benny Bagwell and Bo Parris officiating. Burial was in George Family Cemetery in Cherokee.
Pallbearers were Shane Dunn, Tony Waldroup, Chris Conley, Jasper Correa, George Rosario and James Wolfe.
A native of Swain County, he had lived in McDowell County for the past 14 years. He was a weaver with Galey and Lord, and enjoyed fishing and watching sports. He was a son of the late Rosie Marie Ledford George.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, John William George; his grandmothers, Ida Messer and Dellie Marie Ledford; and his grandfather, James Ledford.
Surviving are his father and step mother, Thomas Lee and Letitia George of Whittier; paternal grandfather, Tom George of Whittier; one sister, Loreina Hernandez of Cherokee; and two brothers, Thomas Nelson George of the home and Franklin Toinetta.
