Three contestants compete to see who has the best traditional mountain garb during the costume contest for children at Western Carolina University’s 31st annual Mountain Heritage Day. All three contestants, (from left) Elizabeth Vickery, Anna Tyler and Ally Vickery, won first-place blue ribbons, presented by Bill Nichols, Norton Stage emcee. The Vickerys are daughters of Jeffrey and Tonya Vickery of Sylva, and Tyler is the daughter of Robert and Jennifer Tyler of Silver Spring, Md., and granddaughter of Jim and Rena Rowell of Cullowhee. For more Heritage Day photos, see page 6A.
