KAREN BARNES sent us a note asking that we share her gratitude with all the people and organizations who made the first season of First Friday performances a success. She thanks the Jackson County Arts Council, Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and Travel and Tourism Authority for financing and promoting the programs; she thanks The Sylva Herald and other local media for publicity, Shirley Coleman of Dillsboro for her help with press releases, and performers Marshall Ballew, Amanda Stewart and Sharon Dills, the Muses, and Gary Carden for sharing their talents.
“I know I use the word ‘community’ a lot – it’s because I’ve always felt so blessed to live in such a wonderful one – and that’s who I’d like to thank next,” Barnes wrote. “My friends in the Dillsboro Merchants Association and throughout the county for everything from putting up posters to attending the programs. I was so grateful for the support, and our performers were quite impressed with the attentiveness and enthusiasm of audiences. Finally, thanks to our hosts Tom and Emma Wertenberger of Squire Watkins Inn, who provided us such a lovely location for our shows. I look forward to working with Emma on the Monteith Property, where an outdoor amphitheater will one day house our performances. This was our first season, and knowing the talent in Jackson County and the fine folks who helped make it a success, I look forward to many more!”
