Sidney Frady
Sidney Earl Frady, 79, of Racking Cove Road, Sylva, died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005, at Ensley’s Adult Care Center after a brief illness.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, in the chapel of Melton-Riddle Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Norris officiating. Burial was in Addie Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Terry Sellers, Eddie Dyer, Kyle Balwin, Ronnie Mathis, Scott Frady, Shane Van Tuinen, Matt Frady and Mike Broom.
A native of Jackson County, he lived in Virginia for 30 years before moving back to Jackson County three and a half years ago. He was a farmer and cattleman. He worked for Mead before moving to Virginia, where he worked for Virginia Fiber for 20 years until his retirement. He was a member of Buff Creek Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Albert B. Sr. and Eva L. Mathis Frady.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Annas Ray “Buck” Frady.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda Sellers of Columbus, Miss., and Judy Frady Lambert of Dillsboro; one son, James Eugene Frady of Concord, Va.; two sisters, Betty Dyer and Dixie Blanton, both of Sylva; one brother, Albert Frady Jr. of Sylva; and five grandchildren.

Henry Whitmire
Henry Edward Whitmire, 56, of Sylva, died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, at Mission Hospitals in Asheville.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Kremer officiating. Burial was in Pisgah Gardens.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday, Sept. 15) at Sylva First Baptist Church, of which he was a member and deacon.
He was born Nov. 6, 1948, in Brevard, and was a project manager at Western Carolina University. He volunteered with the Girl Scouts and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a son of Joyce and Joseph Whitmire of Pisgah Forest.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are two children, Lesley Whitmire of Asheville and Lindsay Whitmire of Charlotte; and four brothers, Fred Whitmire, Gary Whitmire and Mike Whitmire, all of Brevard, and Jeff Whitmire of Huntsville, Ala.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Drawer 1024, Sylva, NC 28779.

Richard Fox
Richard Eugene Fox, 76, of Burlington, Wash., died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005.
Graveside services were held Monday, Aug. 29, at Hamilton Cemetery with Pastor Dan Hull of Clear Lake Baptist Church officiating.
He was born Jan. 2, 1929, in Sylva, and was the owner and operator of Fox Transfer and Storage. He was a son of the late Raymond and Bessie Jameson Fox.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Paula Betty Waldroup.
Surviving are six daughters, Debbie, Linda, Barbara, Darlene, Christine and Laurie; one son, Rick; three brothers, Ernest, Elbert and Raymond; three sisters, Melita, Annie and Ethel; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Lemley Chapel of Sedro-Woolley, Wash., was in charge of arrangements.

Jeffery Davis
Jeffery Davis, 41, of Olivet Church Road, Whittier, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005, at Cherokee Indian Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Acquoni Baptist Chapel with the Revs. Bo Parris and Noah Crowe officiating. Burial was in Taylor Family Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Albert Arch, Don Queen, Chad Swaney, Moe Davis, Jeremy Woods, Dennis Shelton, Bill Taylor and Doug Pheasant.
A native of Swain County, he had lived in Jackson County for the past six years. He was a 1984 graduate of Cherokee High School, where he was active in sports. He was a truck driver for Co-Co Enterprises and enjoyed watching his son play basketball. He was a son of Pearl C. Davis of Cherokee and the late Charles Buddy Davis.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife of 20 years, Darlene Taylor Davis; one daughter, Erin Reed of Cherokee; four sons, Jamie Hornbuckle, Jeffery M. Davis, Dustin H. Davis and Jordan K. Davis, all of Cherokee; one sister, Mary Jenkins of Cherokee; and one brother, Haven Davis of Whittier.
Melton-Riddle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
