Lady Mountaineers rally by Smoky Mountain’s spikers
Tuscola dropped the first game but came back to win the next three and take a 19-25, 26-24, 25-19, 25-19 non-conference volleyball victory from Smoky Mountain last Thursday at the SM gym.
“It was frustrating,” Coach Tonya Snider said. “That was a team we can beat for sure.”
The Lady Mustangs (3-3) did win the earlier meeting between the two squads.

Tuscola held a 15-8 lead in game one before Amy Haggard served 10 points, including two aces, for an 18-16 SM edge. Jennifer Webb had two kills in the spurt while Sarah Haggard and Colleen Davis added one apiece. Davis served the game’s last five points with Webb providing a kill along the way.
Kelli Woodard’s seven points, including an ace, put SM up 13-8 in game two. Amy Haggard contributed two kills to the run, and Davis had one. The Lady Mountaineers rallied to go in front, but the Lady Mustangs served for the game after Amy Haggard’s three points made it 24-23. Tuscola scored the game’s last three points.
The Lady Mounties led throughout game three then soared to a 14-1 lead in game four. SM fought back with Woodard serving four points, including an ace, and Davis having a kill narrowing the gap to 22-10. Five points, including an ace, by Amy Haggard made it 23-16 with Webb having a kill, but Tuscola managed to hang on.
Amy Haggard recorded 10 kills and 13 digs while handling 17 of 20 serve receptions.
Amy Haggard and Woodard had 18 and 13 service points, respectively. Haggard served 95.6 percent, and Woodard finished at 94.1. Davis was perfect in 10 serves. Team serving was 85.1 percent.
The Lady Mustang JVs are 0-6 after Tuscola’s 13-25, 25-19, 25-21 win.
“We showed a big improvement,” Coach Natasha Wilson said. “It helped to have three days of practice.”
She singled out Hannah Painter and Heather Parton for their play.
