Katrina relief effort tops $33,000
Mountain Faith – from left, Brayden McMahan, John Morgan, Sam McMahan and Summer McMahan – were among the performers who gave their time to entertain volunteers and passers-by during the Sept. 10 Jackson County Cares at the Justice Center. The event, a fund-raiser for victims of Hurricane Katrina, was sponsored by The Sylva Herald, WRGC radio, WestCare, Sylva Rotary Club, Western Carolina University, Jackson County commissioners and others. Donations totaled $33,842, surpassing the drive’s goal of $30,000, WRGC General Manager David Skinner said. Those who would still like to donate may do so by making a check out to “Jackson County Cares” and taking it to a local bank. – Herald photo by Derek Hodges |
