Fairview students help with Katrina aid

091505fairviewdonations
Students at Fairview Elementary’s after-school program loaded relief supplies for victims of Hurricane Katrina last Thursday (Sept. 8). The students donated and collected goods during a weeklong relief drive held at the school. “They’ve been excited about it,” said Vicki Sargent, far right, director of the after-school program. “They’ve been arguing over who’s going to help.” Along with canned goods, diapers, baby formula and other supplies, students raised $300 for the relief effort. The donations were given to the Asheville Red Cross, which will distribute them across affected parts of Louisiana and Mississippi. – Herald photo by Justin Goble
