Apple-butter benefit

091505tuckasegeewesleyan
The Rev. Jeff Powell stirs the apple butter as Tuckasegee Wesleyan Church member Conrad Brown adds wood Saturday (Sept. 10) during the church’s annual fund-raiser. Brown, who brought the 30-gallon copper pots and the recipe from Virginia, supervises each fall’s batch, Powell said. The congregation earned most of the money needed to construct its fellowship hall through apple-butter sales, and they donated last year’s proceeds to the Canada Fire Department. This year’s profits will go to a Tuckasegee Wesleyan member, Scott Ashe, who is battling cancer and has been unable to work, Powell said. – Herald photo by Lynn Hotaling
