Two people were arrested Friday in connection with an assault and purse snatching on Aug. 2 at Harold’s Supermarket.

Danna Delora Grooms, 35, of Canton, is charged with conspiracy and two counts of aid and abet, according to warrants at the Clerk of Court office.

The victim of the assault and purse snatching was 69-year-old Opal Ward of Whittier. She was hospitalized overnight following the 6:15 p.m. incident in Harold’s produce section. Cook was then seen running from the back door of the supermarket.

Officers now believe he left in a car driven by Grooms, according to Detective Shannon Ashe of the Sylva Police Department.

Investigators obtained surveillance video of the pair at another Sylva business, and the man (Cook) matched the description of the assailant, Ashe said.

Cook was already wanted for two similar incidents in Haywood County, according to Ashe. Another similar incident involving Cook occurred in Asheville the day after the assault at Harold’s, Ashe said.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Cook was in custody in Haywood county with Grooms jailed in Jackson County. Bond for each was set at $100,000, Ashe said.
