Teddy Conner
Teddy Conner, 76, of Whittier, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at his residence after a period of declining health.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
He was a native of Polk, Fla., but lived most of his life in Jackson County. He owned and operated a construction company, and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and woodworking. He was a son of the late Oscar Leon Conner and Ollie Lee Tyson Conner.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Oscar Conner.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Hardrick Conner; one daughter, Shanna Delores Conner of Whittier; four brothers, Leo and Raymond Conner of Okeechobee, Fla., James Conner of Wauchula, Fla., and Byron Conner of Tampa, Fla.; and two sisters, Dorothy Smith of Okeechobee and Mary J. Wales of Winter Haven, Fla.

Katie Brady
Katie E. Brady, 94, of Cherokee, died Friday, July 22, 2005, at Britthaven Nursing Facility in Franklin.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 25, at Cherokee Baptist Church, of which she was a member, with the Rev. Percy Cunningham and Ray Kinsland officiating. Burial was in Birdtown Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Truman Taylor, Charles Taylor, Mernie Taylor, James Tooni, Darrell Curtis and Tony Taylor.
Born and raised in Cherokee, she was a boarding school matron in Holbrook, Ariz., for many years before retiring in 1972. She attended Blanton Business College and was actively involved with Tsali Manor in many different capacities. She was an Honored Elder in the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. She was a daughter of the late John R. and Nannie Welch Taylor and was the foster daughter of Katherine Crowe.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, James L. Brady; four brothers, George, Herbert, Theodore and Sim Taylor; and one sister, Margaret Brady.
Surviving are two brothers, Jess Taylor of Cherokee and Edward Taylor of San Ramon, Calif.

Darin Panther
Darin Nicole Panther, infant daughter of Trina Rhinehart and James Panther of Cherokee, died Saturday, July 23, 2005, at Harris Regional Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, at Yellowhill Baptist Church with the Revs. John West and James “Bo” Parris officiating. Burial was in Panther Family Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Patty Sue Wahnetah and Salvador Monreal and paternal grandfather, Samuel Panther.
Surviving in addition to her parents are paternal grandmother, Katie Wolfe Panther; two sisters, Chavis Brook Panther and Jordan Elise Maney; and two brothers, Christian Shane Sneed and Kennan James Panther, all of Cherokee.

Clyde Sitton
Clyde Sitton, 68, of Webster, died Monday, July 25, 2005, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 29, in the chapel of Moody Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie Stillwell officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today (Thursday, July 28) at the funeral home. Burial will be in Webster Cemetery.
A native of Jackson County, he was a son of the late Richard and Viola Griffin Sitton.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert Sitton
Surviving are his stepmother, Saddie Brendle Sitton; three brothers, Ronnie Sitton and Ray Sitton, both of Sylva, and David Sitton of Tennessee; and two sisters, Iola Hodgins of Franklin and Annie Ruth Taylor of Canton.

Fred Locust
Fred Locust, 77, of Cherokee’s Birdtown community, died Saturday, July 23, 2005, at Harris Regional Hospital after a period of declining health.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, at Goose Creek Baptist Church, of which he was a member, with the Revs. Randy Watkins and Furman Smith officiating. Burial was in Locust Family Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jack Hornbuckle, John Hornbuckle Jr., Will Locust, Bob Lanning, Tony Taylor and Sheldon Franks.
A native and lifelong resident of Swain County, he was the soil and moisture conservationist for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and an avid outdoorsman. He was a son of the late Noah and Pearl Smith Locust.
He was also preceded in death by six sisters, Mattie, Martha, Josie, Tennie, Bessie and Jessie; seven brothers, Albert, Clarance, Andrew, Russell, Homer, Lewis and an infant brother.
Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Lida Fay Locust; three daughters, Arlena Lanning, Doris Sharp and Debbie Lee, all of Cherokee; three sons, John Locust, Noah Locust and Andrew Locust, all of Cherokee; one sister, Edna Hornbuckle of Cherokee; one brother, the Rev. Arthur Locust of Cherokee; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Barbara Ferguson
Barbara Jean Parker Ferguson, 63, of Old Mission Road in the Qualla community, died Monday, July 25, 2005, at her residence after a battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday, July 28) at Shoal Creek Baptist Church, of which she was a member, with the Revs. Mike Dellinger and Jack Hinson officiating. The family was scheduled to receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, at Moody Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sherrill Cemetery on Old Mission Road.
She, along with her husband, owned and managed Ferguson Trucking Company, Soco Superette, True Value Hardware and Cherokee Texaco. She was known for her efforts to keep local roadsides clean. She enjoyed cooking, walking and gardening. She was a daughter of the late Verlon and Irene Paxton Parker.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Denny Parker, who died in infancy.
Surviving are her husband of 41 years, Ray; two daughters, Trudi Lamond of Charlotte and Teri Barber of Atlantic City, N.J.; one sister, Judy Parker McDowell of Advance; and four grandchildren.
