Municipal elections filing to begin Friday

Filing for non-partisan municipal general elections will begin Friday, July 1, at noon and will run through Friday, Aug. 5, at the Jackson County Board of Elections.
The election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
Residents who are already registered do not need to re-register but those not registered to vote must register or update information by Oct. 14, to be eligible to vote.
Registered voters within the towns of Forest Hills, Dillsboro, Sylva and Webster may vote with an absentee ballot. Requests by mail must be received between Oct. 7 and Nov. 1. Absentee voting begins Oct. 20 and ends Nov. 5.
Polling places are as follows:
Sylva – Sylva-North Ward, Justice and Administration; Sylva-South Ward, Community Service Building; Dillsboro, Dillsboro Town Hall
Dillsboro – Dillsboro Town Hall
Forest Hills – Cullowhee
Webster – Family Resource Building
Webster, Dillsboro and Forest Hills will each elect five board members and a mayor. Sylva, which has staggered terms, will elect a mayor and two board members. Seats up for election are currently held by Eldridge Painter and Anne Cabe
