LIL’ HARVEY’S PLACE is now open in Dillsboro Court, next to Ray’s Florist. The shop offers full-service catering for weddings, parties and conventions and includes an entertainment space that accommodates 150 guests. Lil’ Harvey’s offers the public one chance each week to dine in, serving a Sunday brunch from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. that includes traditional breakfast foods as well as a salad bar, homemade pastries, desserts and more. ARE YOU A MEMBER of a book club or reading group? Would you like to join one? City Lights will host a “Book Club night” tonight (Thursday) at 7 p.m. Co-sponsored by the Cullowhee Dessert and Book Club, the event is open to everyone and will feature presentations by City Lights staff and others on books that are well-suited to group reading. THE SYLVA LIONS CLUB is selling license plates that commemorate this year’s NCAA champion North Carolina Tar Heels.  The attractive plates are available through a contract between the NCAA and Lions International, and half the purchase price goes to fund Lions’ projects. Stop by or call David Preston’s Edward Jones office (586-3848) for more information or to buy one for $5.


WE RECEIVED A NOTE from Sylva Partners in Renewal coordinator Linda Gillman expressing thanks to everyone who helped with the April 30 Greening Up the Mountains festival. Gillman expressed appreciation to Chief Jeff Jamison and the Sylva Police Department, Dan Schaeffer and the town’s maintenance staff and to SPIR’s festival co-sponsor, Catch the Spirit of Appalachia. She also commended festival director Tony Camblor, music organizer Marshall Ballew, race coordinator Greg Duff and SPIR board members for their tireless efforts.


BALSAM MOUNTAIN INN’S next Songwriters in the Round session will be Saturday, May 21, and will feature Becky Hobbs, Benita Hill and Kacey Jones.The evening includes a gourmet dinner buffet, and the session begins at 7:30 p.m. Cover charge is $7 per person, plus dinner (about $24-$27). POMME DE TERRE FARM in Sylva has added a second date to their annual flower show. The event will continue Saturday May 14, from 1-4 p.m. The event will feature garden tours, a plant sale and thousands of blossoms.
