Bus ride ends in ditch

042105schoolbus
A school bus from Scotts Creek Elementary School ended up in a ditch after the driver, Sherrie Dillard, lost control of the vehicle Monday (April 18) on Slim Dillard Road in the Cope Creek area. Neither Dillard or her only passenger, Felisa Trantham, 13, were injured. Dillard usually checks her rear-view mirror for a loose dog that chases the bus in the area, Trantham said. “She just got distracted looking for the dog. I said ‘Uhm,’ and she tried to swerve, but we were already in the ditch.” Trantham’s mother, Linda Andretti, said she was alerted to the accident by a neighbor. “I about lost it,” said Andretti, who was relieved to find her daughter unharmed. Charges for the accident were pending, according to N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper Denny Wood. – Herald photo by Derek Hodges
