WE RECEIVED A NOTE from Denny and Patsy Mathis of Willets thanking the Balsam Fire Department for their quick action recently during two emergency situations. “We are fortunate to have a dedicated, civic-minded group of people such as these in our community who risk their lives to help,” Denny and Patsy write. “They’re always ready to assist when we need them, and we owe them a debt of gratitude.” They also expressed appreciation to Sylva, Cullowhee and Saunooke firefighters who also responded to the fire at a nearby barn.
IN LAST WEEK’S NOTE about 23-year-old Brandon Cerrito, who is searching for his biological parents, we mentioned his biological father, Gregory Kent Hughes, but we forgot to add that he knew his grandmother’s name was Betty Hughes.
