Carrilea Potter scored three goals, and Smoky Mountain held Murphy without a shot in a 7-0 non-conference soccer victory on March 21 at Murphy.

Laury Brown had two assists for the Lady Mustangs, who took 28 shots.

“We were on a high after the Erwin and Murphy games,” Coach Lyman Whisman said. “We had out shot them by a combined 55-0.”

Potter opened the scoring with an assist from Brown four minutes into the game. The same combination clicked again making it 2-0 at the 25-minute mark.

Goals by Chelsea Parham and Jordan Youmans in the final three minutes of the half resulted in a 4-0 margin at intermission. Potter assisted on Youmans’ goal.

The Lady Mustangs continued the onslaught with unassisted goals by Kelli Brannigan (51 minutes), Potter (61 minutes) and Melissa Gispert (77 minutes).

“They all were good finishes,” Whisman said of the goals.

“Potter continues to be a real dangerous force and can score against just about anybody,” the coach added. “A lot of the other girls stepped up and had good shots.”
