Officers arrest two in connection with meth lab at Tuckasegee home

Two were arrested after a crystal methamphetamine lab was discovered March 23 in the Tuckasegee area.
Acting on an anonymous tip, Detective. Ronald Mathis and Lt. Kim Hooper discovered several items associated with the manufacturing of methamphetamine at a Crane Road residence last Wednesday, according to Capt. Steve Lillard of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

Karen Holmes Williamson, 35, of 88 Crane Road, Tuckasegee, was arrested at the scene and charged with possession of stolen goods, felony child abuse (because her 13-year-old son was in the residence with the lab), maintaining a dwelling for the use of controlled substance, manufacturing meth, possess and distribute a meth precursor and possession of meth, Lillard said.
She remained in jail on a $51,500 secured bond, Lillard said Monday.
Willie Lee Thomas Jr., 34. of Greenville, S.C., fled the scene before officers arrived. He was arrested two days later in Greenville and faces charges identical to those listed for Williamson, Lillard said..
Once the lab was identified, the area was secured and SBI agents were called in to assist with assessment and disposal of hazardous materials, Lillard said. Cullowhee firefighters responded to the area and stood by to assist in case of any explosion or fire resulting from the lab.
According to Lillard, the lab was assessed and dismantled without incident.
