Herald offices to observe Good Friday holiday - The Sylva Herald newspaper and printing plant offices will be closed on Good Friday, March 25. Hands of time get new spin - Restoration work continues on the old Jackson County Courthouse. Most recently the clock on the cupola has been restored to working order. Soon-to-be-completed upgrades includes fixing exterior lighting and adding the word “Jackson” before “County Court House” on the front of the building, said county Manager Ken Westmoreland. DSS worker jailed, charged with molesting two children - A county social worker remains behind bars on multiple counts of sex offenses against children. Autopsy reveals heart attack killed inmate - An inmate held at the Jackson County Detention Center died Monday night (March 21) as the result of a heart attack, Sheriff Jimmy Ashe said Tuesday. Richard Dale Wood, 39, of Dillsboro, was pronounced dead at Harris Regional Hospital around 10:30 p.m., Ashe said.
