Smoky Mountain track teams win over Tuscola

Smoky Mountain’s men’s and women’s track teams emerged victorious in a dual meet on March 14 at Tuscola.

Tom Westbrook, coach of SM’s women, said after checking with past coaches he believed it was the Lady Mustangs’ first victory ever in a track meet.

“I was very pleased with the girls’ effort,” Westbrook said. “Our goal is competing. We want to compete every meet, and we’ll let wins fall where they may.”

The women won 72-67 while the men took a 69.5-67.5 victory.

“It’s always good to get the first dual meet win, especially for our young group of kids,” Coach Jamie Extine said of his men’s team. “Our team keeps improving.”
