Dillsboro’s 16th-annual Easter parade to be Saturday

Babies in strollers, toddlers to teens, favorite pets and those young at heart will march through Dillsboro this Saturday, March 26, for the town’s 16th-annual Easter Hat Parade.

The march will begin at 2 p.m. and is expected to draw more than 200 bonnet-clad revelers.

Judges will be on the lookout for outstanding head-toppers in more than 20 categories, including the biggest, smallest, funniest and most creative, as well as “poofiest,” “most spring-like” and “best-smelling.”

There will also be a prize for best-dressed pet.

Marchers will be escorted by antique cars driven by members of the Old Timer’s Model A Club of Asheville. The Easter Bunny will also be in attendance, riding in a wagon pulled by a John Deere tractor.

A children’s tea party will be held at 11 a.m. on the lawn of the Dillsboro Chocolate Factory. Tea, juice and treats will be served to hat-wearing kids 12 and under, said shop owner Stacey Hepp.

Kids’ creativity will also be seen in shops around town, as the poster art of about 300 Jackson County kindergartners will be on display. The town sponsors an Easter coloring contest, and 10 winning entries – including that of Smokey Mountain Elementary School student and grand-prize winner Fayre Coffey – will be up for view outside Dogwood Crafters.
