County’s churches announce Easter services
Churches throughout Jackson County have announced special Easter services. Those received by press time include:
Thursday, March 24
Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church will hold a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. Participants will remember events that preceded Christ’s crucifixion.
Scotts Creek Baptist Church will hold a Maundy Thursday communion service at 7 p.m. to commemorate Jesus’ Last Supper.
Friday, March 25
Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church will hold a 7 p.m. Good Friday service that will include songs, readings and the burning of palm branches to symbolize the trial, suffering and death of Jesus.
Alliance Bible Church, located on River Road in Dillsboro, will hold a Good Friday candlelight communion service at 7 p.m.
Sunday, March 27
Little Savannah Baptist Church, Webster Baptist Church and Webster Methodist Church will hold a sunrise service, led by Little Savannah, at Stillwell Cemetery beginning at 7 a.m.
Little Savannah Baptist Church’s youth will present a play entitled “It All Happened in the City,” at 10:30 a.m.
Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church will hold an 11 a.m. service.
Moses Creek Baptist Church in Caney Fork will hold a sunrise service in Upper Stephens Cemetery at 7 a.m. Breakfast and fellowship time will follow at 8 a.m., and the church will hold its worship at 10 a.m.
An interdenominational sunrise service will be held at 6 a.m. at the Cherokee Indian Fairgrounds. The service will be led by members and clergy of local churches and Principal Chief Michell Hicks and will feature singing and a message delivered by the Rev. Shawn O’Neal of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. For more information, call Dinah Grant at 497-2948 or Mary Herr at 497-9498.
Alliance Bible Church will hold an 11 a.m. service.
Scotts Creek Baptist Church will hold a sunrise service at 7 a.m. at the historic Old Field Church on Cope Creek Road. Breakfast will be served in the fellowship hall at the Scotts Creek church after the service. The church will also hold an 11 a.m. service featuring an Easter musical, titled “Lamb of God,” performed by the sanctuary choir.
Zion Hill Baptist Church will hold a sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. at the Pumpkintown Community Center. Refreshments will be served after the service.
Balsam Grove Baptist Church and Sugar Creek Free Will Baptist Church will hold a combined sunrise service at 7 a.m. at Balsam Grove Cemetery. Breakfast will follow at the Sugar Creek church fellowship hall.
Wilkesdale Baptist Church will hold a sunrise service at 7 a.m. at the church. Sunday school will begin at 10 a.m. followed by worship at 11 a.m.
A community sunrise service will be held at 7:30 a.m. in Henry-Cogdill Cemetery.
Calvary Baptist, Deitz Memorial Baptist and East Fork Baptist churches will hold a sunrise service at 7 a.m. in East Fork Cemetery. Following the service, breakfast will be served at the Savannah Community Building.
Lovedale Baptist Church will sponsor a sunrise service at 7 a.m. in Lovedale Cemetery.
Victory Baptist Church will hold an early service at 8:30 a.m. featuring the music of Mountain Faith, a message from Pastor Mozart Bangilan from the Phillipines for the adult class at 10 a.m., and another service at 11 a.m.
