A NEW WRITERS’ GROUP will hold its first meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, at Back Street Books. Mountain Voices Writers Group is the third resurrection of a writers’ circle that met at local writer Gary Carden’s house for a number of years. WESTCARE HEALTH System will host a barbecue fund-raiser Friday, March 4. Proceeds will be donated to American Red Cross Mountain Area Chapter’s local emergency relief fund and Hearts With Hands Tsunami disaster relief fund. Meals will be served at both Harris Regional and Swain County hospital cafeterias from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Cost will be $5 per plate. Take-out and curbside service is available by calling 586-7154. SMOKY MOUNTAIN HIGH SCHOOL’S marching band would like to thank everyone who participated in the Edisto Beach Trip raffle held last month. Congratulations to Susan Bowman who held the winning ticket. Funds raised will be used to help students pay for their spring trip and offset band operating costs for the current school year.
