Blanton’s ‘garden’
After half a century of pastoring Jackson County’s churches, including 25 years at Deitz Memorial Baptist Church, the Rev. Robert Blanton now spends weekdays tending congregations of plants in the greenhouse at the Hub, Jackson County Schools’ alternative learning center. Students call him a good mentor and say he also tends to their needs amidst the rescued plants they help him grow. “Everybody believes in God and nearly all in Jesus Christ, but they’re turned off by organized religion,” Blanton said. “It’s a different kind of work I’m doing here.” See the story on page 1C. – Herald photo by Carey King |
