BALSAM MOUNTAIN INN’S restaurant now has its own name. The restaurant became “Seven Springs at Balsam” recently as new owners Kim Shailer and Sharon White continue to revitalize the century-old hotel. Husband-and-wife team Shailer and White purchased the inn last summer and have decided to promote the restaurant to the dining public. They now have an ABC permit to serve mixed drinks, wine and beer, and have a new executive chef, James McAbee, who has upgraded the menu. “Although the inn has been a fixture in this area for decades, we realized many people didn’t know the restaurant was open to the public,” said White. “We want folks to be aware that Seven Springs is great dining option. You don’t have to be a guest to enjoy the restaurant.” McAbee was promoted to executive chef in September after more than two years at the inn. He has added entrees including pan-seared trout, tournedos of beef with caramelized shallots, shrimp and grits, salmon en croute with citrus beurre blanc, and salads topped with grilled chicken, salmon or shrimp. The dessert menu has also been revamped. The restaurant is open seven days a week. Hours are 5 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday. Reservations are accepted, but not required. For information or reservations, call 456-9498.
