Deryl Worley
Deryl “Stella” Cox Worley, 53, of Glenville, formerly of Waynesville, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at her home after a brief illness.
Memorial services were held Saturday, Feb. 19, in Waynesville.
Surviving are her parents, Jane and John L. Cox of Seminole, Fla.; one son, Clinton Dean Worley of Cerro Gordo; and one sister, Donna Kistel.

Isabelle Knight
Isabelle Porter Knight, 97, of Waynesville, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, at Autumn Care of Waynesville.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, in the chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Revs. Johnny Swanger and Charles Dean officiating. Burial was in Green Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were James Beck, Johnny, Junior, and Sam Jones, David Knight, Jay Pavey, and Gene Reece.
Born Feb. 15, 1908, in Palm Beach County, Fla., she attended school in Lake Worth, Fla., and spent her last two years of school at an elite finishing school for young ladies in Roanoke, Va. In 1926 she met her future husband, George Knight of Balsam. She enjoyed sewing and crafts. She was active in East Sylva Baptist Church at one time. Later, she joined Balsam Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late James H. and Ellen Jane Ferguson Porter.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1987; three brothers, Bill, Henry, and George Porter; one granddaughter; and two great-grandsons.
Surviving are two sons, Melburn and William “Bill” Knight of Balsam; one daughter, Georgia Thrower, of Columbus, Mont.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. Alvin Conner
Alvin “Buddy” Russell Conner, 72, of Gastonia, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, in the chapel of McLean Funeral Home with the Rev. Rex Atkins officiating. Burial was in Gaston Memorial Park with military honors conducted by Bessemer City American Legion Post 243.
A native of Jackson County, he retired from Otis Elevator with more than 30 years of service. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a U.S. Army Korean War veteran. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping and NASCAR. He was a son of the late Charlie Clingman Conner and Kister Russell Conner.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Caroline Pressley; and five brothers, Raymond Carl Conner, John Conner, Junior Conner, James Earl Conner and Frank Conner.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Colleen Foxx Conner; two sons, Mark Anthony Conner and Charles Russell “Chuck” Conner, both of Gastonia; three sisters, Ruth Stewart of Mooresville, and Mattie Conner Mills and Hattie Conner Buchanan, both of Concrete, Wash.; and three grandchildren.

Quince Hedden
J. Quince Hedden, 91, of Cullowhee, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, in Fidelia Eckerd Care Center of Highlands.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Thursday, Feb. 24) at Yellow Mountain Baptist Church with the Revs. Keith Ashe and Walter Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Stewart Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites.
His grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
He was a native of Macon County and spent most of his life in Jackson County. He was a logger and operated a sawmill from 1951-88. He attended Glenville High School and was a member of Yellow Mountain Baptist Church, where he was a former Sunday school superintendent, deacon and teacher. He was a Mason and Shriner and also a member of the Scottish Rites and Eastern Star. He was a son of the late George and Callie Buchanan Hedden.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Emma Stewart Hedden, who died in 1987.
Surviving are eight daughters, Barbara Ledford of Franklin, June Hedden of Lilburn, Ga., Hester Keener of Destin, Fla., Mary Keener of Highlands, Shelba McFarland of Virginia Beach, Va., Helen Justice of Hendersonville, Alice Anthony of Gallatin, Tenn., and Hope Calloway of Cashiers; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Jeston Frady
Jeston Frady, 89, of Sylva, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at Harris Regional Hospital after a period of declining health.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, in the chapel of Moody Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Bryson officiating. Burial was in East Fork Cemetery.
A native of Jackson County, she was a homemaker and a daughter of the late John and Margaret Buchanan Beck.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Frady; five children; two brothers; and two sisters.
Surviving are two sons, Roscoe C. Frady and Harold Frady, both of Sylva; five daughters, Brenda Griffin, Peggy Frady and Margaret Tippett, all of Sylva, Barbara Moore of Cullowhee and Geneva Shope of Waynesville; two brothers, Sam Beck and Johnnie Ray Beck, both of Sylva; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Nellie Wishard
Nellie K. Wishard, 74, of Waynesville, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005, at Autumn Care of Waynesville. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, in the chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Rev. Ricky Conner officiating. Burial was in Greenhill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Michael Farmer Jr., Doug Farmer, David Farmer, Gene Keefer, Henry Keefer Jr., Adam Monteith, Levi Monteith and James Monteith.
She was a native of Ft. Loudon, Pa., and had been a resident of North Carolina since 1977, moving from Hagerstown, Md. She owned and operated Wishard Ceramics along with her husband and in Hagerstown they operated a motel and a ceramics shop. She enjoyed reading and crocheting. She was a daughter of the late George and Goldie Mellott Keefer.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Wishard Sr., who died in 1996; five brothers, George, Henry, Harry, Hayes and Frank Keefer; three sisters, Lydia Hastings, Marie Stoner and Mary Jane Keebaugh.
Surviving are three daughters, Patricia Wishard Stockslager of Hagerstown, Vicki Sequoyah of Waynesville and Mary Stiles of Whittier; one son, Robert M. Wishard Jr. of Ft. Loudon; two sisters, Edna Funk of Greencastle, Pa., and Ester Shipley of Waynesboro, Pa.; and two grandchildren.
